Last weekend saw Cheshunt swimmers compete in the East Region championship at the University of East Anglia, Norwich. The first weekend saw
7, of the 8 swimmers who qualified, in action.
Olivia Pawson was first in the water in the 200m Individual Medley. A strong swim saw her finish in 15th place in the East Region 14yr age group, in a time of 2:38.59. Next up was Tegan Wollaston also in the 14yrs East Region age group swimming 800m Freestyle, her strongest event. An excellent swim saw her not only knock 8 seconds off her PB but also put her on the podium with a 3rd place, in a time of 9:45.47, and a bronze medal.
Regionsl Qualifiers 2014Emily Lush, Megan Pope, Olivia Pawson and Tegan Wollaston were all in
action the 100m Freestyle with Emily finishing 23rdin the U12 East Region age group, in a time of 1:12.69.
Megan finished 16thoverall in the U13’s, in a time of 1:08.33. Olivia was 15thwith a time of 1:05.28 & Tegan 24thwith a time of 1:06.51 respectively in their age groups. Last race of the day was the gruelling 200m Butterfly. Tegan swam well in the heats qualifying for the final in which she came 7th in a time of 2.39.63.
The Sunday morning session saw the team back in action. Tegan swam in the 100m Butterfly finishing in 9th place with a time of 1:12.10. Daniel Lush then opened his Regional account in the 13yrs 200m Breaststrokefinishing in 11th place with a time of 2:57.40. The final event of session 3 was the girls 400m Freestyle with Tegan & Olivia back in the pool. Olivia again producing a solid swim in 12th place finishing in a time of 4:53.63 and Tegan continued to show her strength at the longer distance coming 8th in the 14yr age group in a time of 4:46.52.
The final session on Sunday saw Alara Norton & Holly Atkins in the 12yrs 100m Breaststroke. For Holly this was her first Regional Championships and she ended up in 11th place with a time of 1.29.35. Alara who was seeded behind Holly swam an excellent heat placing her into the final in which she came a very respectable 7th with a time of 12:26.21.
