Peanuts & JSL Diddy League Rd 2

The weekend saw Cheshunt Swimming Club putting out strong teams in both the Peanuts and Didy Leauge second rounds. It started with the Peanuts on Saturday night. Cheshunt always knew it was going to be a tough fight having been promoted from the second division last season, but the team went out with confidence and determination.

Peanuts League Rd 2There were excellent swims and second places from Spencer Mills (10) U/11 25m freestyle (16.46), Callum Wollaston (11) U/12 50m freestyle & butterfly, Emily South (12)  U/13 50m freestyle (31.08), Daniel Lush U/13 50m freestyle (30.20) & 50m breaststroke (39.14), Alara Norton (11) U/12 50m breaststroke (42.41) & Emily Lush (10) U/11 25m freestyle (15.97). Emily also got our only first place of the night beating off the competition in the U/11 25m backstroke (19.26).

There were also good swims and 3rd places for Courtney Burke (11) U/12 backstroke (39.76) & Butterfly (39.38), Millie Clark 9 years 25m freestyle (18.24) & Ela Norton 9 years 25m breaststroke (26.53).

Sunday saw the team travel to Braintree Swimming Centre  for the second round of the Didy League.

Having finished 4th in the last round, the squad were confident of a similar result even though they we’re up against some tough competition. Diddy League Rd 2

The gala saw second places for Emily Lush (10) U/11 Backstroke (40.24) & Freestyle (35.69), Callum Wollaston (11) U/12 Butterfly (38.09), Emily South U/13 (31.13) & Alara Norton U/12 50m breaststroke (42.22) as well as the girls U/11 4x25 freestyle team of Emily Lush, Millie Clark, Lauren Lee & Courtney Abrahams & girls U/12 4x25 team of Courtney Burke, Holly Atkins, Alara Norton & Neave Brookman.

3rd places Millie Clark 9 years freestyle (18.41) Courtney Abrahams (10) U/11 breaststroke   (47.54), Zane Batt (10) U/11 backstroke (43.89) as wells as the boys 9 year old 4x25 freestyle team of Taylor Coe, Jack Pym, Aaron Pickard & Ben Brookman.

 

Heading into the third and final round, Assistant Head Coach Richard Walker said “It’s been a tough season for our Junior Squads, But they have all swum with dedication and determination. They really have shown that when you train hard, it really does pay off”. The final round for the Peanuts League is on the 15th June, and they Didy League is on the 30th June.

  Peanuts League Rd 1 & Redbridge Open Meet 2013

Cheshunt Swimming Club kicked off the new season of the Peanuts league at the weekend. No less than 11 youngsters, Kye Rozasty, George Popa, Anastasios Karameros, Ben Brookman, Bradley Hewitt, Jack Pym, Taylor Coe, Millie Clark, Rosie Batt, Ella Norton and Aimee Williams made their debut for the club competing for the very first time. Other star performers of the night were Callum Wollaston (11) who came 2nd in the U12 50m Freestyle (32.64) and 2nd in U12 50m Fly (36.70), Emily South (12) came 2nd in U13 50m Freestyle (31.99).

Daniel Lush also came 2nd in U13 50m Freestyle (30.55). Racing ahead in the U11 25m Backstroke was Emily Lush (10) coming 1st, with a time of 18.85 and Alara Norton (11) 1st in U12 50m Breaststroke with a time of 44.10. This followed Alara’s incredible swimming day at the Redbridge open meet where she gained her first ever Regional Qualifying Time storming into 1st place in the 10-11 years 100 Breast, with a time of 1.29.42 striking Gold. Alara followed this the next day coming 3rd in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 3.19.24. Cheshunt’s success story did not end here, Tegan Wollaston took Bronze in 12-13 400 IM (5.39.76), 3rd in 50m Freestyle, 2nd in 100 Backstroke (1.16.63) and 1st in 200 Backstroke (2.37.16). Not to be outdone by his sister Callum Wollaston came 2nd in 10-11 years 100 Fly (1.20.14), 1st in 100 Backstroke (1.19.59), 1st in 100 Freestyle (1.09.61). Continuing Cheshunt’s medal winning streak were Millie Donovan who took 3rd in the 14 years 200 Fly (2.45.23) and 2nd in 100 Freestyle (1.03.01), Lewis Pope came 3rd in 12-13 years 200 Freestyle (2.13.43), 2nd in 100 Freestyle (1.01.57), 2nd in 200 Fly (2.31.64). Once again a fantastic weekend for Cheshunt swimmers!

  Cheshunt Celebrate At Hertfordshire BAGCATS Awards Night

Cheshunt Swimming Club continued to celebrate their County Championships success at the Hertfordshire BAGCATS awards ceremony.

BAGCATS is a system which rewards each County success with points. Throughout the County Championships, swimmers were awarded points according to the times they swam across the whole variety of strokes and varying distances. Points are awarded to individuals for the following.

Best 50m sprint

Best 100m race

Best 200m Form - Backstroke, Breaststroke or Butterfly race

Best 200m Distance - 200m freestyle or 400m/800m Freestyle

Best Individual Medley race

The hard work in training and the determination in racing really paid off for Cheshunt Swimming Club. An incredible 7 swimmers finished in the top 8 in their age group.

The best placed boy was Zane Batt who came 2nd in the 9 years old group. Callum Wollaston collected 3rd place in the 11 years old age group  and Daniel Lush came 7th in the 12 years old group.

The hard work in training and the determination in racing really paid off for Cheshunt Swimming Club. An incredible 7 swimmers finished in the top 8 in their age group.

In the girls' groups, Olivia Pawson collected 3rd place in the 13years old group and in the same age group, Tegan Wollaston came 6th. In the 10 years old age group, Emily Lush came 7th and in the 11 years old age group, Megan Pope was placed 8th.

The swimmers were all awarded with a silver plate at the end of the ceremony.

Well done to all of them, this was a great way to finish off the County Championships!

 BAGCATS Awards Night 2013

The Club now looks forward to the Junior Gala Season starting with the Peanuts League in a few weeks.The BAGCAT winners are an inspiration to the younger swimmers in the club, as many of them will be competing for the first time.

  Cheshunt Swimmers Excel At The 2013 County Championships

The final weekend of the County Championships at The Venue in Borehamwood proved to be yet another success for all our swimmers.

In the first event, the girl’s 50m Butterfly, Alara Norton, Olivia Pawson, Millie Donovan and Tegan Wollaston all lowered their personal best times. Callum Wollaston continued with this theme and knocked 8 seconds off his 200m Butterfly with a time of 3.05.47  to finish 2nd in his age group. The 200m Freestyle saw the girls back in action. Emily Lush, Courtney Burke, Megan Pope and Emily South all lowered their entry times by 2 to 12 seconds.

Tegan Wollaston, Olivia Pawson and Millie Donovan showed their class in this event, as all of them achieved even faster regional times.  Olivia and Tegan showed that they are the 2nd and 3rd quickest respectively over this distance in the County with silver and bronze medals.

The final event in the session was the boys 100m Individual Medley. Zane Batt continued his good form and Daniel Lush, Callum Wollaston, Wallace West and Lewis Pope all achieved new personal best times. The next session saw the boys in the pool again for the 50m Freestyle. Adam Bailey had his first race of the day and it proved to be an excellent event for him, as he took nearly one and a half seconds off his previous personal best time to finish in a time of 33.62. Zane continued to show that he is one of the best 9 yr olds in the County and came away with another silver medal. At the other end of the age range, Liam Nugent, aged 19, proved that he still has it by getting a Regional Qualifying time in this event.

The girl’s 50m Backstroke was next and it came along with another hatful of personal best times. Emily Lush won a bronze medal in the 10 yr old age group with Courtney Burke knocking almost 3 seconds off her swim in the 11 Yr old age group. The 400m Freestyle saw a clean sweep of PBs with Courtney Burke taking 14 seconds off hers and Megan Pope a very impressive 24 seconds off hers. The older girls continued to display their strength, with Tegan Wollaston only 0.29 of a second behind Olivia Pawson and both girls well inside the Regional Qualifying time. They yet again took 2nd and 3rd place in their age group. Millie Donovan showed her class in the 400m Freestyle by knocking 18 seconds off her PB to finish in 4.42.93 and joining the others as a Regional Qualifier.

The final session saw strong swims from Olivia Pawson, Emily South, Tegan Wollaston and Millie Donovan in the Medley Relay and not to be outdone, the boy’s team of Lewis Pope, Wallace West, Chris Armitage and Ryan Ranger all swam sub 30 second legs in the Freestyle Relay. In the girl’s 400m Individual Medley, Tegan Wollaston achieved another Regional Qualifying time and Millie Donovan finished 2nd in her age group with a really strong swim. Lewis Pope finished off the day with a gold medal and a regional qualifying time in the 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2.46.28.

County Championships Medals Photo 2013

On Sunday morning the boys led the way with the 400m Freestyle. Callum Wollaston again showed his all round strength by taking 14 seconds off his PB with a time of 5.10.87 which gave him a Regional Qualifying time and a bronze medal. In the girl’s 50m Breaststroke and the boy’s 50m Backstroke, every single Cheshunt swimmer lowered their PB and Callum Wollaston picked up yet another Bronze Medal!

In the final session of the Championships, all six girls achieved further PBs in the 100m Individual Medley and in the boy’s 100m Freestyle, Daniel Lush added another Regional Qualifying time to his list. Alara Norton was the pick of the girls when she won a well deserved silver medal in the 100m Breaststroke in the 11yrs old race, knocking almost 6 seconds off her PB finishing in a time of 1.31.63.

Overall, the 2013 County Championships was a resounding success for all of our Cheshunt swimmers.

Out of the 142 swims, our competitors achieved the following results:

·24 Regional Qualifying times

·5 County Champions

·8 Silver Medals

·13 Bronze Medals

·72 swims that put them in the top 8 in the County

  Medals Galore For Cheshunt Swimmers At The County Championships

Swimmers from Cheshunt Swimming Club made an excellent start to the second weekend of the County Swimming Championships at The Venue in Borehamwood. First up were the girls in the 100m Freestyle. Megan Pope stormed her heat, knocking over 8 seconds off her previous PB and gaining her first ever Regional Qualifying Time. Courtney Burke, Alara Norton and Emily South also clocked up new PBs. Olivia Pawson, Tegan Wollaston and Millie Donovan then lowered their Regional Qualifying times, with Tegan picking up 3rd place and a Bronze Medal in the 13 yrs old age group.

The next event was the Boys 50m Butterfly. Callum Wollaston, Danial Lush, Chris Armitage and Lewis Pope all improved their times, with Callum winning a Bronze Medal in the 11yrs age group. The final event of the session saw Megan, Alara and Courtney smash their 200m Breaststroke Personal Best times.

The following two sessions saw Personal Best times continue to tumble. Holly Atkins swam a strong 50m Freestyle in her first County race and Zane Batt, also in his very first County race, became 200m Backstroke Champion winning a Gold Medal in the 9 yrs old age group. Lewis Pope picked up a Bronze Medal in the 13 yrs old 100m Butterfly and Tegan Wollaston also picked up a Bronze Medal in the 13 yrs old 200m Butterfly.

County Championships 2013

The final event of the first day was the Boys 400m Individual Medley. There were two excellent swims for the Cheshunt Club, with Lewis Pope being crowned County Champion  and winning a Gold Medal in the 13 yrs old age group and Callum Wollaston picking up a Bronze Medal in the 11yrs old age group.

Sunday started equally as well, with Zane Batt, Daniel Lush and Lewis Pope all recording good 50m Breaststroke times. Not to be outdone, the girls followed with some good results and Olivia Pawson picked up another Regional Qualifying time in the 13 yrs old age group 100m Backstroke and just missed out on a medal in 4th place.

The 200m Individual Medley saw three boys getting close to a podium finish. Callum Wollaston finished in 5th place and Daniel Lush and Lewis Pope both finished 4th in their respective age groups. In the final session of the weekend, Millie Dawson and Tegan Wollaston both added to their list of improved Personal Best times, with Regional Qualifying times in the 100m Butterfly. Lewis Pope put in a brilliant performance in the 100m Breaststroke for 13 yr olds leaving everyone else in his wake to be crowned County Champion and winning his second Gold Medal of the weekend.

The final Girl’s event was the 200m Backstroke. Olivia achieved another Regional Qualifying time and Emily Lush knocked 5 seconds off her PB to pick up a Silver Medal with Courtney Burke knocking almost 9 seconds off her PB.

The last event was the Boys 200mFreestyle. Callum Wollaston put in a good performance to finish in 4th place in the 11 yrs old race. Daniel Lush and Wallace West left the best till last in this event! Drawn next to each other in their heat, the boys pushed each other hard with both of them knocking 4 seconds off their PBs and Daniel achieved a Regional Qualifying time.

An excellent weekend for all our swimmers!  Well done to everyone involved and let’s hope that next weekend proves to be as successful.

  Long Distance County Championships 2013

Cheshunt swimmers made an excellent start to the County Championships at The Inspire 50m Pool in Luton. Courtney Burke opened up the evening with her very first competitive 800m Freestyle setting a PB of 12:29.93 coming 8th in her age group. Megan Pope was next in the water swimming a very strong race setting another PB of 12:07.77 finishing 7th in her age group. Emily South went in heat 3 and showed that she is developing with every swim knocking 32 seconds off of her entry time setting yet another PB of 11:09.18.

 

Long Distance County Championships 2013 

Olivia Pawson & Tegan Wollaston were next up in the 13yrs age group. Olivia was first in heat 6. She started off strongly and was soon pulling away from the rest of the field finishing well ahead of the rest of the heat in a PB of 10:13.10. This left her as the fastest 13yr old with only 3 other swimmers in her age group all of whom were in the next heat.

 

Tegan was one of these swimmers and started off very strongly. By 400m she had taken a big lead and continued to pull away from the rest of the field finishing in 9:59.52 and a new PB. This saw Tegan as County Champion with Olivia close behind in second place.
