Cheshunt swimmers pulled out all the stops last weekend for the second round of th
e Peanuts League in Stevenage. Having finished 2nd in the first round they were determined to gain a top 3 position on the night and they did not disappoint. The team posted some strong swims with a grand total of 16 first place positions along with 6 second places and 7 third’s!
Millie Clark started the night off finishing 3rd in the Girls Under 11’s 25m Freestyle, in a time of 16.68. Emily Lush & Zane Batt then both came into 1st place in the Under 12’s 25m Backstroke finishing with times of 17.88 & 18.30 respectively.Next Megan Pope took 1st place in the Under 13’s 50m Breaststroke with a new personal best (PB) of 38.80.
Not to be outdone, by the older ones, Aaron Pickard & Lara Stevens then brought home 2nd and 3rd places for the 9 Years
25m Freestyle finishing in 17.81 & 19.54. The Under 11’s 25m Butterfly saw Rosie Batt& Taylor Coe finishing 2nd. Rosie came in at 21.81 & Taylor 21.27. Emily Lush & Zane Batt raced again pulling in another two 1st place positions for Cheshunt in the Under 12’s 25m Freestyle.
Megan Pope once again finished in 1st place, this time in the Under 13’s 50m Backstroke, finishing in a time of 35.47. The 9 Years Freestyle Relay team with Lara Stevens, Imogen Gildersleeve, Ruby Taylor & Emilia Gitev showed off their future potential finishing in 3rd place position while the boys team of Aaron Pickard, Rohan Misir, Bradley Hewitt & William Brookman proved a force to be reckoned with pulling an impressive 1st place out the bag. Whilst the Under 11’s Girls Medley Relay team of Rosie Batt, Ela Norton, Millie Clark & Emma Lenahan held on for 3rd place.
Emily Lush, Courtney Munson, Ellie Clark & Lauren Lee finished the Girls Under 12’s Freestyle Relay in a great time of 1:05.94 with Lauren bringing them home in 2nd place.
Competing in the Under 13’s Girls Medley Relay team was Emily Lush, Megan Pope, Courtney Burke and Neave Brookman who gave the crowd a exciting race to watch smashing home a 1st place in a fantastic time of 1:05.94.
The excitement remained as Aaron Pickard then gained 1st in the 9 years 25m Backstroke in a time of 21.80 and was followed by Ela Norton in the 25 Breaststroke also finishing 1st in a time of 21.84. Courtney Munson, in the Under 11’s age group, then flew into 3rd in the 25m Butterfly and 1st in the 25m Breaststroke in a time of 20.73.
Courtney Burke swam in the Under 13’s bringing home two 1st place positions finishing the 50m Freestyle in an impressive 32.08 and the 50m Butterfly in 36.86. Faith Ruoff made her debut for the Peanut’s squad and swam in the Girls Under 11 25m Backstroke grabbing a 3rd place in a time of 22.67. Taylor Coe also swam the 25m Backstroke in the same age group pulling in a 2nd place in a time of 21.18.
The 9 year old boys special relay team finished in 1:36.37 with William Brookman bringing them home in 2nd place.The Girls Under 12’s Medley Relay team then secured another 1st Place finishing in 1:17.54. The Boys team of Zane Batt, Anastasios Karameros, Taylor Coe & George Popa finished in 1:21.41 with George swimming them home in a comfortable 1st place.
Megan Pope, Emily Lush, Neave Brookman & Courtney Burke then showed what they can really do finishing in a brilliant time of 1:01.25 in the Under 13’s Freestyle Relay with an impressive lead throughout and Courtney bringing them home into a fantastic 1st Place.
The highlight of the evening though had to be the 8x25m Squadron Freestyle Relay. To the roar of the crowd Megan, Terry, Lara, Aaron, Millie, Taylor, Emily & Zane brought the team home in 1st place!
Assistant Head Coach Richard Walker said “Despite missing some swimmers who were competing at the East Regional Championships, the squad showed that all their hard work and determination to swim is paying off. Finishing the second round in 2nd place is a fantastic achievement and I’m really proud of all of them”.
The team are now preparing for the final round on the 12th July.
