Swimmers from Cheshunt Swimming Club made an excellent start to the second weekend of the County Swimming Championships at The Venue in Borehamwood. First up were the girls in the 100m Freestyle. Megan Pope stormed her heat, knocking over 8 seconds off her previous PB and gaining her first ever Regional Qualifying Time. Courtney Burke, Alara Norton and Emily South also clocked up new PBs. Olivia Pawson, Tegan Wollaston and Millie Donovan then lowered their Regional Qualifying times, with Tegan picking up 3rd place and a Bronze Medal in the 13 yrs old age group.
The next event was the Boys 50m Butterfly. Callum Wollaston, Danial Lush, Chris Armitage and Lewis Pope all improved their times, with Callum winning a Bronze Medal in the
11yrs age group. The final event of the session saw Megan, Alara and Courtney smash their 200m Breaststroke Personal Best times.
The following two sessions saw Personal Best times continue to tumble. Holly Atkins swam a strong 50m Freestyle in her first County race and Zane Batt, also in his very first County race, became 200m Backstroke Champion winning a Gold Medal in the 9 yrs old age group. Lewis Pope picked up a Bronze Medal in the 13 yrs old 100m Butterfly and Tegan Wollaston also picked up a Bronze Medal in the 13 yrs old 200m Butterfly.
The final event of the first day was the Boys 400m Individual Medley. There were two excellent swims for the Cheshunt Club, with Lewis Pope being crowned County Champion and winning a Gold Medal in the 13 yrs old age group and Callum Wollaston picking up a Bronze Medal in the 11yrs old age group.
Sunday started equally as well, with Zane Batt, Daniel Lush and Lewis Pope all recording good 50m Breaststroke times. Not to be outdone, the girls followed with some good results and Olivia Pawson picked up another Regional Qualifying time in the 13 yrs old age group 100m Backstroke and just missed out on a medal in 4th place.
The 200m Individual Medley saw three boys getting close to a podium finish. Callum Wollaston finished in 5th place and Daniel Lush and Lewis Pope both finished 4th in their respective age groups. In the final session of the weekend, Millie Dawson and Tegan Wollaston both added to their list of improved Personal Best times, with Regional Qualifying times in the 100m Butterfly. Lewis Pope put in a brilliant performance in the 100m Breaststroke for 13 yr olds leaving everyone else in his wake to be crowned County Champion and winning his second Gold Medal of the weekend.
The final Girl’s event was the 200m Backstroke. Olivia achieved another Regional Qualifying time and Emily Lush knocked 5 seconds off her PB to pick up a Silver Medal with Courtney Burke knocking almost 9 seconds off her PB.
The last event was the Boys 200mFreestyle. Callum Wollaston put in a good performance to finish in 4th place in the 11 yrs old race. Daniel Lush and Wallace West left the best till last in this event! Drawn next to each other in their heat, the boys pushed each other hard with both of them knocking 4 seconds off their PBs and Daniel achieved a Regional Qualifying time.
