This year’s East Regional Championships were held last weekend at the Sports Park in Norwich. Callum Wollaston got Cheshunt underway in the 11 yrs Backstroke and finished 9th, just missing out on a place in the final. Our next swimmers were Tegan Wollaston, Olivia Pawson and Millie Donovan in the in the Girls 200m Individual Medley. They all posted long course PBs finishing 12th, 20th and 14th respectively in their age groups. In the final event of the first session, Tegan and Olivia competed in the 800m Freestyle. Olivia went first with an excellent swim knocking 10 seconds off her PB to finish in 4th place. Tegan swam next and again posted a new PB and won the silver medal in the 13 yrs old age group.
In the final session of the day, all five girls competed in the 100m Freestyle. Emily South and Megan Pope both competing in their first Regional Championships posted strong times alongside Tegan, Olivia and Millie. Callum also produced another good swim in the 200m Backstroke. Tegan was the final swimmer of the session in the gruelling 200m Butterfly and her heat time gained her a place in the final. Having started as 7th fastest for the final she dug deep to record an excellent PB and narrowly missing a medal, coming 4th.
Day 2 saw the girls in the 100m Butterfly. Tegan and Millie both swam very good times with Olivia’s PB good enough for to qualify for her first ever final taking 7th place. All 3 girls were then also involved in the final event of the session the girls 400m Freestyle and all were drawn in the same heat. All 3 went out well and dominated the heat with Millie winning it and achieving 12th place in the 14yr old with Tegan and Olivia 5th & 6th respectively in the 13yr old age group.
In the final session of the weekend, Daniel Lush swam in his first ever Regional Championships in the 100m Freestyle. He swam an excellent race and a new PB finishing 16th in the 12yr old age group with Callum 14th in the 11yr olds. The girls finished off the session with the 200m Freestyle. Again strong swims from Olivia and Tegan saw then finish 10th & 11th. Millie again produced an excellent swim just missing out on the final by less than a second. Results HERE.
